Every November, for more than 10 years, the Central Virginia Chapter holds a joint dinner-speaking event with the Charlottesville (Va.) Committee on Foreign Relations (CCFR). It is an opportunity for the 125-150 members of the CCFR, who are interested in foreign policy issues, to learn about the Fulbright program and meet the current and past Fulbrighters in the Central Virginia area. The event begins at 6 PM with a cocktail hour/meet & greet, followed by dinner and a talk by a former Fulbrighter.
This year, on November 14, we had Fulbrighters from Germany, Mexico, Costa Rica, Poland, Philippines, Hungary and Poland attending, along with 14 chapter members and guests.
Fred Borch, our chapter president, talked about the creation of the Fulbright program by Senator Fulbright in 1946, and his recent Fulbright Specialist project in Mongolia in April and May.
